The world is complex
The basic idea of XML is quite simple. Phil has said it can be explained in a couple of paragraphs.
XML is a textual format for representing arbitrary annotated hierarchical (nested) structures. It
uses angle brackets to distinguish structural markup from free text.
But XML's use in a wide range of problems should not be allowed to deceive us into thinking that the
world's complexities can be reduced to the simplicity of XML.
