bullet3 Goals

  • Energy usage

  • Security

    • Access

    • Intruder detection

    • Simulate occupancy

  • Personalized presentation

  • Remote monitoring

bullet3 Use-case: heating control

1. A continuous process switches the home heating to maintain a target temperature indoor temperature, dependent on occupancy.

2. A web calendaring service provides planned occupancy information (at home, away during daytime, away for several days) for each of the normal occupants.

3. Occupancy information may be temporarily overridden by local control, or by remote command

4. Alternative occupants may be specified for scheduled intervals (e.g. visitors)

bullet3 Use-case: security

1. Components:  door controls, occupancy detectors, lights, alarms, occupants' schedule

2. Doors can be opened by local key or authenticated remote command

3. Occupancy detectors triger alarm when no authorized occupancy

4. Open door with key plus authentication indicates persisting authorized occupancy

5. Open door with remote command indicates temporary authorized occupancy

6. Using key to lock door cancels authorized occupancy

7. Period of no detected occupancy at a time when occupancy is not scheduled cancels authorized occupancy

8. Longer period of no detected occupancy at a time when occupancy is scheduled cancels authorized occupancy

9. Night time without occupancy, lights are operated in a pattern typical of occupancy

10. Authorized occupancy not in accordance with schedule triggers alert

bullet3 Use-case: Personalized presentation

1. Components:  occupancy sensors, cameras, door sensors, voice messages, temperature sensors, light sensors, door controls, heating controls, camera controls, remote access.

2. Authenticated users can access the various facilities provided.

3. Access to facilities is controlled on a per-user basis.

4. When accessing the system, the unser interface is constructed to dynamically reflect the signals and controls available to the authenticated user.  Some people will have access to all facilities.  Others may be permitted only to access their own voice messages and turn lights on and off.
